The Philadelphia Church of Lord is a non-denominational Religious church which remnants it roots back once again to the Worldwide Church of Lord, founded by Herbert W. Armstrong in 1934. Herbert W. stor general of the Worldwide Church of God and manager in fundamental of the Plain Reality magazine. He was a pioneer in religious broadcasting. Millions around the world heard his voice on The Earth Tomorrow radio and tv program. In 1947, he established Ambassador University in Pasadena, Calif.
He was also founder and chairman of the Ambassador International Social Basis, noted for their social, charitable and humanitarian activities. Mr. Armstrong visited significantly more than 70 nations saying the gospel of the Kingdom of God, and was very honored by heads of state such critical areas as China, China, Africa, Israel and Egypt. Even yet in his 90s, he continued to create, broadcast and preach what’s promising that God can intervene to save mankind in that generation. Among his several books are The United Claims and Britain in Prophecy and his ultimate perform, completed just weeks before his death, Secret of the Ages.
When Herbert W. Armstrong died, the World wide churches in philly posthumously denounced him as a heretic and rejected every one of his teachings. Consequently, church account plummeted. Significantly more than 70 percent of his fans were pushed out or excommunicated from the Global Church of Lord as a result of sweeping doctrinal changes. Ambassador School, The World Tomorrow plan and almost all of the Ambassador Foundation’s jobs are actually defunct. Gone is the world-renown show line presented in the wonderful Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena. The Simple Reality journal flow, which capped 8 million free copies each month in the late 1980s, has shriveled to less than 100,000 compensated subscriptions.
When these doctrinal changes were in their early phases, Gerald Flurry, an ordained WCG minister since 1973, became surprised and plunged into an intense study of the Bible to locate the reason for the betrayal he was witnessing. The consequence of his studies was a book titled Malachi’s Meaning, which shows that the Worldwide Church of God’s falling far from the reality was really prophesied millennia ago.
In December 1989, almost four years following Mr. Armstrong’s death, Mr. Flurry was excommunicated from the WCG for continuing to think and teach what Mr. Armstrong taught. Mr. Flurry was encouraged to establish immediately the Philadelphia Church of God. It began humbly and little — with 12 members.
The original members of the PCG supported Mr. Flurry in doing the very first mail-out of Malachi’s Information in January 1990. In the fall of this year, there have been around 250 people in the Church worldwide. The Trumpet was in monthly circulation, although it was much smaller and of decrease quality than today’s magazine.
In 1991, there clearly was a huge upsurge in the quality and level of literature the Church was producing. The Trumpet circulation extended to grow and many new pamphlets were finished. Ever since then, the PCG has introduced five publications and nearly 50 books to guide this caution message. The church does not ask for cash for any of its materials. More than 50 million items of free literature have now been distributed since 1990.
